18+ Update

7th March 2022

Sessions are continuing to run on Wednesday evenings from 18.00 – 20.00 at Wetherspoons for our 18+

They consist of eating a meal together, healthy conversations and games. This past week consisted of some serious belly laughs as we played “Spoons” in Spoons!

We absolutely love our Wednesday group, and our members often query where fellow attendees are, when they cannot come along. Such a blessing to be able to get together each week!!

If you would like to attend, please email Ruth at ruth@skyautismsupport.com

10-17’s update

7th March 2022

We have had a fun-packed couple of weeks, including Laserquest in Half Term and Shrove Tuesday!

Laserquest: – The group had great fun at Laserquest, with 2 games, air hockey and lunch. Our group were amazing and handled the loudness, lights and experience very well!! Laughter and fun rang through the arena and the day highlighted how just how versatile our incredible youth can be when prepared.

Shrove Tuesday – Last Tuesday, we had a very tasty session!! We taught a little about why we eat pancakes, before encouraging our young people to shake up the batter and cook the pancakes. We made the pancakes in pairs and had a great time playing games, sewing and making dens while awaiting our turns. I must also say how incredible they were, even helping to wash the dishes afterwards. I must admit, our youth did so much better than I did!!! This also tested patience, but my group handled the frustration wonderfully. ( I’m blaming the electric cooker, for my lack of skill hahaha!! )

10-17’s update

17th February 2022

This last Tuesday, our 10-17’s had a wonderful session!! The group played a very large game of Connect 4 and had some fun with arts and crafts!

Connect 4

We also had a look at Shopping and Healthy Choices, learning to collaborate as a team to decide on a shopping list for the snack box. This was then put into action with a group walk to the Sainsbury’s Local and our young people paid for their snacks.

18+ at Wetherspoons – 02/02/2022

7th February 2022

Last Wednesday we had a lovely time at Wetherspoons and after eating our meals, we had a few different activities on the go including making dogs, playing “Spoons” and more!

The big takeaway moment for me this week was realising the sheer number of healthy conversations going on about all things life outside group. Very grateful we have this space at Wetherspoons to get together, have fun and build a community within our 18+ group.

If anyone would like to enquire about joining us at our 18+ or volunteering, please email ruth@skyautismsupport.com

10-17’s – 01/02/22

7th February 2022

Last Tuesday we played a new game – Pencil Nose – modelled below by one of our attendees! We had our group build a rather large den, as well as card games and crafts.

Pencil Nose!

During the session we also looked at our own emotions and how we can discern what we are feeling ourselves! We had a look at the “Blob Tree”, in which we had a very good discussion about how sometimes we can be smiling but how there is more than just happiness, that we are anxious under the smile too; or that we can feel one way at school and another at home.

Our team game this week was “Trust” – in which we had 2 teams, each with one person blindfolded and we had a race to reach a bottle. Both teams did incredibly well in trusting their team-mates, which had the group receiving a mini prize each!

25/01/2022:- 10-17’s Group

27th January 2022

This week, we enjoyed some more crafts, building dens and playing games!

We also started a new series to look at some life skill based topics. We played 2 games based on “emotions!”

The first involved some amateur performing arts and was a challenge to see what emotions could be heard.

The second was a game of Guess Who: Emotions Edition, in which the guys had photos and they had to work out who the other team had by looking at each photo carefully!

The group did incredible and we certainly shared some laughter!!!

Our dream is to develop a community that will continue to support Autistic people when their families are no longer able.

Through our work we want to see Autistic people and their families grow in confidence through accessing autism-specific support. They will gain relationships, skills and opportunities to help their lives. We want the futures of Autistic people to be full of hope.
