10-17’s – 01/02/22

7th February 2022

Last Tuesday we played a new game – Pencil Nose – modelled below by one of our attendees! We had our group build a rather large den, as well as card games and crafts.

Pencil Nose!

During the session we also looked at our own emotions and how we can discern what we are feeling ourselves! We had a look at the “Blob Tree”, in which we had a very good discussion about how sometimes we can be smiling but how there is more than just happiness, that we are anxious under the smile too; or that we can feel one way at school and another at home.

Our team game this week was “Trust” – in which we had 2 teams, each with one person blindfolded and we had a race to reach a bottle. Both teams did incredibly well in trusting their team-mates, which had the group receiving a mini prize each!

If you are interested in your child coming to the group, or if you wish to volunteer some time, please email ruth@skyautismsupport.com

25/01/2022:- 10-17’s Group

27th January 2022

This week, we enjoyed some more crafts, building dens and playing games!

We also started a new series to look at some life skill based topics. We played 2 games based on “emotions!”

The first involved some amateur performing arts and was a challenge to see what emotions could be heard.

The second was a game of Guess Who: Emotions Edition, in which the guys had photos and they had to work out who the other team had by looking at each photo carefully!

The group did incredible and we certainly shared some laughter!!!

Parent’s Evening 20.01.2022

26th January 2022

We had a lovely session on the 20.01.2022, with an incredible discussion led by Jackie and Trudy!

Jackie shared a mountain of useful information, on how we meander the jungle of available support within our children’s school years and beyond. This included particularly helpful explanations of the jargon we encounter, the different services, waiting lists and battles.

A massive thank you from us at Sky for coming with such an abundance of helpful information!!!

The resources received and discussed can be found on our website under: – Resources

Upcoming Parent’s Evening

5th January 2022

When : – 20/01/2022 19.30

Where : – St Andrews Church Hall, Churchdown Road, Malvern, WR14 3JX

We generally meet about 7.15 for a cup of tea and nice chocolate biscuit and then start promptly at 7.30.

Jackie and Trudy plan to focus the meeting for parents going through diagnosis and all the issues around EHCP plans and SENCO’s and schooling etc.

But if you are not at that stage please still come along- we generally find we have plenty of helpful conversation- as we all have a child with autism and we share and understand that!

We should have plenty of space – we will comply with the church rules on masks etc- but I don’t think you will find it too onerous

I hope to see you then. If you have any questions before hand please contact Ruth by email at: ruth.skyautism@gmail.com

With all best wishes for 2022

Simon

Our dream is to develop a community that will continue to support Autistic people when their families are no longer able.

Through our work we want to see Autistic people and their families grow in confidence through accessing autism-specific support. They will gain relationships, skills and opportunities to help their lives. We want the futures of Autistic people to be full of hope.
